LAS VEGAS — At a recent reception and awards ceremony in the Wynn Hotel, the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) and Professional Builder Magazine honored Park Village at Fort Belvoir with a 2008 Best in American Living Award (BALA). Commended for cohesive design, sustainability, and the intricate renovation of two 1930s-era historic homes on-site, the Fort Belvoir, Va. community for Army families received the Judges’ Special Recognition honor in the newly created Military Housing category.
“Best in American Living Award winners represent the finest homes and communities in the nation,” said Paul Deffenbaugh, editorial director for Professional Builder magazine. “In awarding Park Village as a Judges’ Special Recognition, we wanted to showcase this exceptional project and herald Clark’s positive impact on military families.”
Developed by Clark Realty Capital (CRC) and built by Clark Builders Group (CBG) as part of a public-private partnership with the US Army, the Park Village neighborhood is comprised of 22 new Craftsman-style homes built around two restored historic homes. In order to maximize connectivity and preserve green space, the project team retained the neighborhood’s original “loop” street network, preserved existing trees through compact site planning, and planted nearly 100 new trees. The single-family homes boast EnergyStar appliances, four bedrooms, and spacious floor plans. Home façades feature a unique color scheme inspired by 1930s designs and include expansive, dormered front porches, creating a cohesive streetscape alongside the restored units.
“Winning a BALA is a tremendous honor for the Fort Belvoir RCI project,” said Casey Nolan, development executive at CRC. “To receive the first Special Recognition for a military community is particularly exciting, and we hope Park Village will continue to enhance the quality of life for those who deserve it most.”
Sponsored by Professional Builder and NAHB, the Best in American Living Awards recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. This year, judges reviewed thousands of entries and narrowed their selection to 40 winners. This award marks the fourth consecutive year that a Clark project has won a BALA, and represents Fort Belvoir family housing’s 20th accolade.
